The Afterglows

Weekend Warrior, February 22 - 24

The 12th annual celebration of duos, better known as Two Piece Fest, will be taking place this Saturday, beginning in the afternoon and running through the evening at Everybody Hits. The pairing of Michael Cantor (The Goodbye Party) and Sam Cook-Parrott (Radiator Hospital) creatively connect as The Afterglows. In a manner, it seems rather natural; songwriting and singing peacefully, poignantly converge in their music. Radiating with earnest emotion, reinforced by finely threaded, fire-kindling harmonies, the two-piece is a fine example of how deft simplicity transmits over a large expanse. The Afterglows will be part of a diverse, locally loaded-lineup that also includes Drums Like Machine Guns, 7th Victim, Hermit High Priestess, Brown Rainbow, Camp Candle, Korine, and many more. So make a day of it, and catch some dynamic duos at Philly’s favorite batting cages/DIY venue. – Michael Colavita

Weekend Warrior, September 2 - 5

Though the corporate monstrosity known as Made In America will be taking over Center City Philly this weekend, it doesn’t mean that you don’t have a safe haven away from the mainstream crap that will be flooding our streets. Tonight at Nacho House, get the feels with the warm, comforting harmonies of The Afterglows. The natural musical partnership of West Philly housemates Michael Cantor (The Goodbye Party, ex-Ambulars) and Sam Cooke-Parrott (Radiator Hospital) will be celebrating the release of their collaborative self-titled debut LP, which you will be able to purchase this evening on vinyl. It will be a “chill” night of “soft sounds” that will also include local singer-songwriter Shannen Moser and former Chumped frontwoman Anika Pyle. And you won’t have to consume any crappy, overpriced Buds! Nacho House (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more info.), 8pm, Free, All Ages - H.M. Kauffman

Debut The Afterglows LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

The Afterglows, the musical union of Sam Cook-Parrott (Radiator Hospital) and Michael Cantor (The Goodbye Party), recently shared their self-titled debut full-length album. The home-recordings capture the innate ability of the duo to turn heartache into melody, with Cook-Parrott's acoustic strums and Cantor's layered electric tones as backdrops. It's an intimate look into the late-night, open, honest dialogue between the two housemates. You can stream and download the album below, which is also available on vinyl via Salinas Records.

New Track: "Angels In The Sunshine Hotel" - The Afterglows

Michael Cantor (The Goodbye Party) and Sam Cook-Parrott (Radiator Hospital) have united to form The Afterglows. "Angels In The Sunshine Hotel," currently available for streaming at NPR Music, represents the first glimpse into the duo’s self-titled debut album, which will be released via Salinas on August 19. The song captures a sense of fragile intimacy as strings and acoustic guitar mingle with delicately natural vocal harmonies. The result is an unsettling push and pull, whose proximity is warm, yet eerily unresolved.
