HIGH HEELS LO FI - PREMIER PARTY ROCK BAND

Toronto's Premier Party Rock Band - High Heels Lo Fi are a half n half guy/girl pop rock band. They have fuzzy pop-punk melodies along with greasy female vocals. Definitely a vintage vibe kinda like the New York Dolls, Joan Jett and maybe a little bit of KISS. Might as well just get wasted while watching them rock out live. High Heels Lo-Fi play Junction City Music Hall on Saturday with The Danger Bees, Big Name Actors and Flamingo Báy. - Kris Gies

THE DANGER BEES - LIVE AT JUNCTION CITY MUSIC HALL!

The Danger Bees are a 5 piece alt-rock based in Toronto. They released a brand new record in January titled "Fish With Wings". This album has 9 songs and completely oozes 90's. These tunes should have been featured on the Wedge in 1997. If you feel like some brand new nostalgia (is that a thing?) then head over to the Danger Bees bandcamp and buy this record. Make sure you go see them on Saturday April 29th at Junction City Music Hall with Big Name Actors, Flamingo Báy and High Heels Lo Fi. - Kris Gies

BARE CLAWS - HITTIN' THE TENNESSEE

This is Bare Claws, sportin a new Chicago Cubs-esque logo. They are a 4 piece rock band from Newmarket. They have one self titled record released so far. Diggin the track "A Beautiful Woman". To be honest it's kinda weird in a good way. Some cool keyboard action and the vocals I would describe as a mix between the singer from Hot Hot Heat and a regular lazy person. "Contemporary Issues" has cool vibes to it as well. The guitar carries this mellow track that also shows these fellas can drop in some nice harmonies when needed. Heads up for the laser beam. Bare Claws hIT the Tennessee in Toronto on Thursday. Sweater Pants and Big Name Actors are also on the bill. - Kris Gies

BIG NAME ACTORS - HORSESHOE TAVERN!

Their names might not be Depp, Hanks and Costner but they are still Big Name Actors! A power pop trio based in Toronto. They have some nice tunes. Catchy and simplistically sweet. They just recently re-mixed and re-mastered their EP "Morning Sun". It was free until a month ago so you're going to have to drop a few bucks for it now....it's clearly worth it. Might just have to skip your Starbucks today but I think you can handle that. Big Name Actors sound very 90's which is awesome. Singer/guitarist Hugh Wilson has some Craig Northey from the Odds in his voice...I feel a little bit of Gin Blossoms in there too but there's more of an edge to it still. My top gun picks from their "Morning Sun" EP are "Make It Shine" and "Name Your Price". The former for sure should be spinning on radio stations across the land. That doesn't matter though...they all can be spinning on your favorite device for just a few bucks. Go get "Morning Sun" from Big Name Actors and see them LIVE on Thursday at The Horseshoe Tavern with the Zoes, Womb and The Lipstick Junkies. - Kris Gies

WOMB - NEW TRACK - HORSESHOE THIS WEEK!

Womb...a 3 piece rock trio originally from the Ajax area and now based in Toronto. They say it nicely themselves "a group of musicians who keep it raw and full of swing." They play some pretty dirty rock but their tunes definitely have some swing and jazz influences running about. Lead singer/guitarist Ragwax is a jazz guy himself...often playing solo gigs all over Ontario when Womb isn't raising hell. Good news folks, they have a brand new album on the way later this year called "Situation Normal, All Fucked Up". They just released the first single and video from the upcoming album. The track is called "Everything Is Gonna Be Alright". It's a really groovy track...the verse parts will keep your head bobbing and toes tapping. It has a retro feel to it as well. Something that could be playing at the diner while your grabbing a milk shake with that new girl in town. Really digging Ragwax's vocals in this track too...kinda lazy singing with just enough rasp in the voice. These fellas will be lighting up the stage at the Horseshoe Tavern on Thursday February 11th along with Big Name Actors, The Lipstick Junkies and the Zoes. Have a listen to this new track from Womb.
