Ahead of the March release of their new album "In Business," Nashville's favorite landlocked surf rockers unveil a beachy, fuzz filled power pop tune sure to please both the garage rocker and easy listener. Big Surr refuses to be confined by a sonic niche. They dwell in the liminal space between the lo-fi, fuzzy, trashcan garage and sweet, breezy, reverb-soaked beach. "Sometimes" is no exception. The guitar hook structures and compliments an otherwise washy collage of smooth, atmospheric guitar swells, while Helen Van's unassuming slacker vocals invite everyone in, disarming any skeptics with a charming, humble apathy. We're exactly a month into Fall and faced with those chilly Autumn nights, it's really easy to get idealistic about summer--warm sand, boardwalk popsicles, and top-down car rides are starting to feel more and more like functions of the past.  Big Surr, with all their beach-poppy swagger, surf beats, and fuzzy guitar licks, feel like summer but lack those rose-colored glasses we tend to don everytime cold weather rolls around. This is summer, pit stains and all, where the skin that's not covered by your shorts ends up sticking to your car seat. But this is what we love about Big Surr: there's a real rawness in the music created by their intersection of jangly guitar voicings and lackadaisical vocals. Baked + Bruised, the band's 3-track EP, is a good example of this and throughout the album the band manages to create infectiously catchy melodies, all while maintaining their lo-fi allure. Counter Culture Artist Management Presents: San Francisco based authentic shoegaze band, Slowness will be playing Neck of the Woods on Friday, October 24th. The bill is rounded out by the washed out, etherial local band, Big Surr and the Los Angeles based Cali pop band, Cre·scen·do.

If you're into reverbed, psyched out post modern bands you'll enjoy this show. Big Surr will reflect a more youthful sound compared to the polished and seasoned gazey style of Slowness and Cre·scen·do will play an upbeat tempo driven style of pop rock to make the night reasonably eclectic.

We recommend you make it out to this show. The music will be good and you'll be near the beach. Sounds like a good way to spend a Friday night to us.
