Future Soul sensuals Air Life performs new songs at The Satellite tomorrow

Oh Taylor Dexter!

Beloved drummer of Hunter Hunted and the Body Parts. He who watched Daniel Garner and Ryder Bach raise roofs from afar. An apostle of the kit, born-again singer and frontman who spread the word of Pop and the future spirit of Soul into our hearts. Though our daily grind leaves us broken and defeated, the collective voice of Air Life lifts us up with such energy and funk, and carries us on.

Blessed are we Angelenos to have witnessed Air Life's residency at the Satellite, the collab performance with HOLYCHILD, and the back-to-back showcases at Echo Park Rising. Blessed are the stalwart sextet backing Dex, musicians of immeasurable talent — bassist Brad Babinski and drummer Brijesh Pandra, Derek Howa of keys and Mark Einhorn of the brass, the dextrous Wesley Singerman on guitar, and singer Cassandra Violet who loops and spits like it's nobody's business.

Woe to the music purveyors who forsake Air Life's next show, happening tomorrow at The Satellite with Steady Holiday and an undisclosed special guest to open the night. Forgive them, for they know not what they are missing out on (new music, an awesome live performance, $6 entrance with RSVP). - Ryan Mo

Body Parts Voted First Runner-Up as The Deli LA's 2013 Best Emerging Artist

If you've been reading The Deli LA at all this year, you know we've been following local art-pop band Body Parts as they slowly released single after single from their now fully released debut album, 'Fire Dream.' Their epic residency to celebrate the release at The Satellite this November will not soon be forgotten. Co-founders, Ryder Bach and Alina Cutrino, are overflowing with ideas and the chops to match. The band just finished up a string of west coast dates with Cloud Control. They'll be opening for synth-pop trio, Wildcat! Wildcat! at The Echoplex on February 21. While you wait for this night of sweet jams, stream "Unavoidable Things," which smartly unfolds the story at the crux of the album.

Best of 2013 Poll for Emerging Los Angeles Artists: FINAL RESULTS!

Deli Nation,

Our Year End Poll for Emerging Los Angeles Artists was - as usual - a painstaking (and somewhat excruciating) process, but we pulled it off with remarkable flair! Kudos to Moses Sumney for winning it! 2013 was an exciting and inspiring year for LA's music scene. No one encompassed that more fully than Moses Sumney. We are glad to be able to give him the honor of winning the title.

Here's how it all went down. First, we let the local bands submit their music (for free), and got our Deli editors to pick the nominees. Then we polled a list of 15+ Los Angeles scene experts (our jury, list at the bottom) and asked them to nominate 3 more bands of their choice each. Then we polled our writers, then we polled our readers. We tried to keep things open for each single genre, from Indie Rock to Roots Music to Hip Hop.

If you are a geek interested in all the subtelties related to how this poll works, you can read its rules here (happy reading!). But if all you care about is the awesome new music Los Angeles produced in the year 2013, this list is all you need. Enjoy!

The Deli LA Presents: Body Parts Residency Nov. 11 at The Satellite

Our favorite Avant-Pop Duo, Body Parts, are continuing to celebrate the release of their debut album, ‘Fire Dream,’ every Monday this month at The Satellite. This coming Monday, November 11, The Deli LA will be presenting their Residency. With performances by Mt. Ossa, J. Laser, and Leopold and His Fiction, it’s sure to be a dreamy disco-tinged dance party. Check out the new Body Parts video for “Desperation” below and be sure to check them out live this Monday, so you can dance along in person. - Jacqueline Caruso

Body Parts Release ‘Fire Dream’, Announce November Residency

There have been a ton of great releases this month from local acts, but one we’ve been anticipating with tween glee is the debut from avant-pop innovators, Body Parts. The build up to ‘Fire Dream’ has been almost unbearable, as they slowly leaked single after impressively delightful single. This ingenious strategy has turned tracks like, “Unavoidable Things,” “Be A God,” and “Desperation,” into already familiar favorites. In the wake of their big release, they’ve also announced their November Residency at The Satellite. Starting November 4 and continuing every Monday night for the remainder of the month, they will be serving up their intricate synth-drenched pop tunes for your discerning palettes. Stay tuned for more details as The Deli LA will be presenting one of the nights. Stream the album below from Father/Daughter Records out now on vinyl, CD and on iTunes. - Jacqueline Caruso
