Goodnight Cody's Toy Beat magic will light up Low End Theory

Cody Farwell's music reminisces on Japanese RPGs while seemlessly blending elements from his extensive musical past. The multi-instrumentalist has been a part of numerous projects ranging from '70s punk to reggae dub and Latin jazz, and his induction to the heady electronic collective TeamSupreme as Snorlax has produced countless Cypher mixes with the likes of Kenny Segal, JNTHN STEIN, Preston Walker (Virtual Boy), and Great Dane.

Now, Farwell is unveiled as Goodnight Cody in his label debut Wide as the Moonlight, Warm as the Sun: 16 levels of textured, contrapuntal melodies that perfectly evoke heroic NES adventures and bright-eyed fantasies. Gameboy atmospherics meets Sesame Street jams meets Steven Universe aesthetics — it's like everything and nothing you've ever heard before. Goodnight Cody plays tonight in an 18+ show with Daedelus, Elusive, and Kodak to Graph along with the Low End Theory mainstays Daddy Kev, Nobody, D-Styles, and Nocando. Listen to the featured track "Alone on this Island" below and find his debut album on Daedelus' label Magical Properties, out now. - Ryan Mo

Liphemra performing Low End Theory 7.22

Liphemra is headed to perform this Wednesday at the Low End Theory with Brooklyn's future soul savant Taylor McFerrin, experimental hip-hop from Monterey Ashtre Jinkins, and LA's ill goddess LINAFORNIA. Expect top shelf performances by residents The Gaslamp Killer, Nobody, D-Styles, Low End Theory host Nocando, and independent label Alpha Pup co-founder Daddy Kev.

Due to unforseen circumstances, Liphemra was unable to perform at the Low End Theory in May. But that hasn't slowed them down — Liphemra worked last-minute support for Algiers' West Coast tour, gave a stellar performance at the second Lolipalooza, and released their zine did u cry through Lollipop and Burger Records to fan acclaim. Now, the four-piece dubbed by IMPOSE as "one of LA’s most passionate and sonically progressive phenomenons" are in full gear, with a return to the annual Echo Park Rising festival and new material in the works.

Watch the premiere of the music video for Liphemra's recent release "Magazines" directed by Liza Mandelup and witness the grandeur live Wednesday night at the Low End Theory. - Ryan Mo

New Elephant & Castle LP 'Transitions,' New Videos

Oakland music producer Elephant & Castle (aka David Vincent Reep) recently released two videos for new tracks, “I Will” and “En Memoria” (featuring fellow Oakland darlings tUnE-YarDs), off his forthcoming album Transitions, out Tuesday, March 27 via Plug Research.

The nomadic, young producer traveled around Colorado, Texas, California and London, where he was inspired by the Elephant and Castle neighborhood's blues and soul sound. After returning to the US, Reep became fascinated with rave music and started interning at a studio where he self-released a 7” of his own experimentations. Next he released the acclaimed Analogue EP, mastered by Daddy Kev, plus a bunch of singles available for streaming on Bandcamp. On Transitions, expect more jazz and ambient sounds similar to artists such as DJ Shadow, Flying Lotus and Burial.
