Die Choking

Weekend Warrior, June 23 - 25

After a pressure cooker of a week, this weekend offers the opportunity to let out some steam, ease the tension, and let loose. This evening, Cheerleader heads the billing at Johnny Brenda’s. The quintet’s misty, refreshing melodies wash over you in a pleasantly cruising daydream. An inherent, rolling, rhythmic optimism sticks into the grooves, escaping the day-to-day grind. Tonight, they’ll be supported by Buffalo garage-rock trio Made Violent and the Brooks Brothers-led musical ensemble of Louds, whose bright, bubbling pop-rock naturally spills over on to the dance floor.

On Saturday at Johnny Brenda's, the quirky sing-along, carnival, musical troupe of OhBree brings out all the bells and whistles, celebrating their new record Burn Bridges, Burn Pies. Orchestrating their precision-oriented, multi-faceted soundscapes, Grandchildren helps in setting the musical scene, along with the engaging, energy-rich ebb & flow of Mumblr and the subdued pop of Glenn Matthews.

And whether you simply aren’t ready for the party to end or are an early riser ready for some Sunday day-drinking, get on over to The Barbary for the first annual Psychedelic Breakfast with psych-garage trio Residuels, local grindcore three-piece Die Choking, An Albatross, and much more. - Michael Colavita

Die Choking Record Release Show at Boot & Saddle Nov. 7

Grindcore trio Die Choking invokes a physical prowess on their full-length debut III, released via Compound Records. The album, which enlisted the expertise of engineer Will Yip, storms your sonic system. Quick bursts of instrumentation and a growling vocal intensity smash through obliterating any obstacles that lie within their path. Die Choking approaches the stage like a drag strip, hitting the gas hard and roaring furiously ahead in an exhibition of high-performance speed and power. They celebrate the release of III this evening at Boot & Saddle. Constructing scorching, melodic metal serving as the soundtrack to an epic sojourn, Surgeon kicks the night off. New Jersey grindcore five-piece Organ Dealer and Cleveland’s Grin and Bear It aid in keeping the musical fire stoked. Boot & Saddle, 1131, S. Broad St., 8pm, $10, 21+ - Michael Colavita

New Track: "Dwell" - Die Choking

The forecast of rain all day has us feeling some kind of way. So we'd like to release some pent-up frustration by sharing the latest from Philly grindcore outfit Die Choking, called "Dwell," which you can stream HERE. The trio is made up of former and current members of Cop Problem, Total Fucking Destruction, and Burden - Josh Cohen (drums), Paul Herzog (bass/vocals), and Jeffrey Daniels (guitar). The group recorded its forthcoming LP, III, with Will Yip at Studio 4, and will be releasing it on October 8 via The Compound Records.
