Drop Electric

Drop Electric is DC's own post-rock powerhouse

In a city known for punk and hip-hop anthems, DC’s Drop Electric makes epic, pathos ridden, slow jams. Relying on heartbreaking harmonic progressions, dramatic instrumental timbres, Sigur Rosian slow grooves, and show-stopping delivery by lead singer Anya Mizani, Drop Electric is fearlessly taking its unique sound to the DC scene. Check out Drop Electric with Staycation and Sunbathers January 27th at the Rock & Roll Hotel.

Drop Electric record BSide session at Mobtown Studios

DC favorite Drop Electric have just released a BSide Session at Baltimore's Mobtown Studios. BSide Sessions are a unique way to connect bands to their fans. The band spends a day in the studio, recording two songs and a 10 minute video. Mobtown has provided both live tracks for download (featuring songs off Drop Electric's upcoming album) and the short documentary about the band. Check out the video below. --Natan Press

Drop Electric at DC Music Download

DC group Drop Electric has only been together for a few years, but that hasn’t stopped them from gaining major notice in the area. The band’s electronic, female-led music is somehow both melancholy and hopeful at the same time, and gives listeners the feeling of being alone in a large crowd. Drop Electric just released its label debut album, Waking Up to the Fire, in October 2013 and will be featured in DC Music Download’s 2-Year Anniversary Show at 9:30 Club on 1/25. --Katie Bowles

Deli CMJ Electro/Avant Pop Stages at The Delancey 10.18 with Wildlife Control, Dynasty Electric, Dinosaur Feathers, Il Abanico, Cultfever + more

DETAILS ABOUT THIS SHOW + STREAMING
COMPILATION OF ALL THE BANDS HERE

This is going to be the longest list of this whole series of announcements. On Thursday, we're once again taking over both floors of The Delancey with upstairs, a line-up of electro up-and-comers from all sides of the spectrum and downstairs, some creative pop gems fitting under the Avant Pop label, for a total of.. NINETEEN acts! So enough chit-chat, let's get to the list, because that is sure going to take up enough space.

Opening the (free!) upstairs show, Thomas Simon's ghostly mixes, followed by the bizarre folk-tronic experiments of Max Horwich's Sewing Machines, Cultfever's chaotic outputs and Railbird's more intimate creations. Next up, we've got three out-of-towners, i.e SF's Maus Haus, Philly's electro/hip hop artist Lushlife, and finally, Anomie Belle, from Seattle, co-headlining the show with NYC's own Dynasty Electric. Then, taking it to the later hours of the evening, Ducky, and Drop Electric (coming from DC).

Downstairs, our two headliners will be Dinosaur Feathers (top picture) and Wildlife Control, who both released this year a delicious new album, second for the former and a first for the latter. We've also got, on this stage, three acts coming from Los Angeles: openers American Royalty, shoegaze-pop band Letting Up Despite Great Faults, and Kiven, who will be closing the show. Add to this Columbian transplants Il Abanico, Conveyor, whom we covered in our last print issue, the catchy jams of five-piece Modern Rivals and finally, Santah, coming from Chicago, and.. I believe WE'RE DONE! In the pictures: Dynasty Electric & Wildlife Control.

DC/NYC's Drop Electric Release New Songs & Video

DC/NYC's post-rock shoegazers Drop Electric recently released 4 new songs on their Summer 2012 demo, 2 of which ("Empire Trashed" and "Fighting at the Mall") feature vocals in what had otherwise been a dreamy instrumental wall of noise rock band. But those vocals only add another beautiful and unique layer to the mix, so bring on more! The stunning score-makers also just released a video for "Empire Trashed" showcasing their skills in pairing gargantuan sound to the stellar visuals created by Patrick Ryan Morris, Drop Electric's Visual Artist. -Dawn
