Several NYC indie ladies perform at Manhattan Inn tonight within "The Hum" series

Tonight at 10PM, Hypnocraft’s The Hum, an ongoing (and free) residency featuring collaborations between NYC  musicians from desperate genres, will once again take over Manhattan Inn in Greenpoint. The artists bring to bear an expansive repertoire to their respective sets, which shimmer with that always exciting energy of that “new band smell.” I was lucky enough to catch the residency’s first iteration, which closed with a powerful duet between Shilpa Ray and Deva Mahal of Skylines, and this Monday’s offerings are no less impressive. The bill includes Teeny Liberson (TEEN)Zoe Brecher (Brainfreeze)Jen Goma (People Get Ready)Sarah Pedinotti (Lip Talk, streaming), Kalmia Traver (Rubblebucket)Kaila MalladyJordyn Blakely (Invisible Familiars)Alyse Lamb (Eula) and Alex Nelson (Oracle Room, also streaming). - Emilio Herce - In the picture,  an image from last' week's show by David Andrako.

Eula celebrates EP Release at Palisades on 07.31 with Big Ups, Courtship Ritual and Pile

Eula is bringing us an insane lineup for their EP release party tomorrow night (07.31).  On the bill they have New England rockers, Pile, and the current Deli's band of the year, Big Ups.  Opening up is Courtship Ritual, whose debut album, Pith, is a promising work of dark bedroom pop.  Simple harmonies combined with unexpected warbly guitar hooks provide an interesting combination; it's as if slacker-rock met L.A. pop and had a baby in Brooklyn. The show is at Palisades this Thursday (7/31) - check out Courtship Ritual single 'Ancient Drip' below. - Jake Saunders

Eula's Got A Trippy New Video

Fuzzy art-punk band, Eula, has released a video for their single, "Orderly", the a-side off their recent 7" single.  The hyper-surreal video features a woman dancing in a zebra striped one-piece in front of trippy images loaded with after-effects.  They've released several videos for songs in recent years, which always proves be an effective mode of expression for the band; another way to present their signature inconsistency.  Exploring multi-media dimensions is only a compliment to the hardcore genre-crossing fire that their sound encompasses.  Stream the video below, and you best save July 31st in your calendar because they're playing their single release show at Palisades with Courtship Ritual, Pile and Big Ups, and you know you don't want to miss that fucker of a lineup  -Jake Sauners

Tracy's CMJ Day 5 -TinVulva, Bugs In The Dark, Life Size Maps, Eula, The Everymen, EndAnd, SLEEPiES & more

And finally, we get to the last day of this CMJ fest. Far from tired, I'm in a place where, buzzing off the large amounts of live music I've been restlessly taking in for the last four days, I'm just NOT sure what to do with myself once this is over. Converse might be hard, as one: I've gone partially deaf, and two: all I've been doing all week is chat and shake hands, to the point where if I have to say once more 'Tracy from The Deli', I might just die. But before I unplug my brain for the whole of Sunday, time to take you through the final leg of this run. Read Tracy Mamoun's report of CMJ's Day 5 here. - In the picture and streaming: SLEEPiES, who by the way have planned a sweet Halloween bash mit Pixies, Ramones, Siouxsie and The Banshees and Joy Division covers, check it out here
