Hazel English Announces Double EP -Just Give In/ Never Going Home

Oakland-based artist, Hazel English is announcing that she will be releasing a double EP. Just Give In / Never Going Home is due May 12th via Polyvinyl and Marathon Artists, and to coincide with the announcement Hazel is sharing a new video for "Fix," the lead single from the double project. The spacey indie pop track receives an appropriately sun-kissed and romantic visual treatment from director Austin Kearns.

Hazel had a hugely successful 2016, which saw her release her debut EP Never Going Home to critical acclaim from publications such as Stereogum, Wonderland, The Line of Best Fit, Noisey, Gorilla vs Bear and DIY as well as BBC Radio 1 tastemakers Annie Mac and Huw Stephens. The limited vinyl run of Never Going Home sold out almost immediately, with its streams eclipsing the 7,000,000 mark and still counting. For her latest release she combined her debut EP with a strong selection of six new tracks.

SF Artists on the rise: Hazel English plays The Independent on 03.23

East Bay by way of Australia dream pop aficionado, Hazel English has released a number of singles with the production of electro dream pop artist Day Wave. The musicians met at English's day job and the collaboration started after she played Wave her sensuous, home recorded pop tracks, including a rough version of debut single, "Never Going Home" (streaming). Since the release of that hazy track the duo released a series of well produced, simple dream pop gems that are a promising foreshadow to her (not yet announced) debut LP. Don't miss her show at the Independent on March 23rd. - Jordannah Elizabeth

Get "Soaked" with noise in Sun Drug's new video

Realigned Silverlake quartet Sun Drug (fka Vanaprasta) want to trepanate you with the video to their newest single "Soaked". Shot in the middle of Joshua Tree, "Soaked" is the second vanguard of Sun Drug's darker visions, following June's digital foray "Easy In Your Attitude".

The summer departure of drummer Ben Smiley, and the counsel of Rocco DeLuca changed the band's course from their 2011 debut Healthy Geometries. A full 180 on sound, the Sun Drug EP doesn't uplift; it agitates. It doesn't embrace guitar warmth; it fucks with synthesizer chills. Heavy doses of noise play, electric beats, and zipper-fuzz riffs will leave you burning through dusk. Metabolize with care.

Sun Drug's next gig is Chris Douridas' School Night Mondays with Caverns, Hazel English, and The Shadowboxers at Bardot. - Ryan Mo
