Invisible Familiars unveil video for "Disturbing Wildlife" + land December residency at Ace Hotel

Invisible Familiars were already pretty quirky when we covered them in depth in our 41st issue of The Deli NYC, but - to our delight - the quirkiness seems to be getting even more pronounced, with the addition of a new video that defies the concept of grotesque. The group, that operates like a collective rotating around songwriter Jared Samuel, just released this video for single "Bestial Western," one of the edgiest tracks in their wildly overlooked avant-folk debut album "Disturbing Wildlife." Will Schalda's video plays with the record's title by protraying a series of bizarre images of animals. Invisible Familiar will be playing a December residency at the Ace Hotel, do not miss! Dates here.

TONIGHT! read The Deli at The Inn with Nicole Atkins, Jared Samuel of Invisible Familiars, Sam Cohen, TEEN

Once a month The Deli sponsors Hypnocraft's lovely shows at the Greenpoint restaurant/piano bar Manhattan Inn - the series goes under the name "At the Inn." This upcoming Monday July 13th, some artists very dear to The Deli will be performing within a night that's a tribute to John Lennon & Harry Nilsson. Not many of you will be aware that super talented Nicole Atkins (pictured) was on the cover of the third issue of The Deli a few years a go (more than a few actually...). We are also huge fans of Sam Cohen and TEEN, bands we covered abundantly, while Jared Samuel's newer act Invisible Familiars recently got a full feature on our NYC print issue. All these artists, among others, will be performing in the Inn's intimate setting, and - should your company be not incredibly entartainig - the room will be well lit enough to allow you to read the latest issues of The Deli in between sets! See ya there! More info here.

Invisible Familiars celebrate release of 'Disturbing Wildlife' at Baby's All Right on 01.30

As creation stories go, Jared Samuel - chief songsmith of NYC band Invisible Familiars - has one, just like the rest of us. It begins in suburban New York State, and crystallizes in Brooklyn, where he doubles these days as both session-man and bandleader.  He's played and toured with acts like Superhuman Happiness, Cibo Matto, and, more recently, Sean Lennon’s GOASTT. The band's debut album, "Disturbing Wildlife" soars gracefully through the pop and psychedelic strata, where rich harmonies and an array of exotic instrumentation never overwhelm Samuel's lyrical expressionism. Don't miss their CD release party at Baby's All Right on January 30 - there's a rumor that his friend Sean Lennon will make an appearence.

Invisible Familiars unveil singles from upcoming LP + play Glasslands tomorrow (10.03)

God bless Other Music for keeping the "relevant Manhattan record store" chapter alive in the new millennium. For those unaware, Other Music apparently enjoys being invested in semi-extinct and incredibly-hard-to-keep-solvent businesses: i.e, they also have a record label. As you may expect from people who deal with records on a daily basis, they sign some interesting bands. The latest addition to their roster is called "Invisible Familiars," a New York based project led by singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jared Samuel, who played with variety of NYC artists (most recently The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger and Cibo Matto). The band released two singles from the upcoming album, the intriguingly sparse, almost ballad 'Clever Devil' (streaming here) and a more electric blueasy number entitled 'Digger's Invitation.' You can check out Invisible Familiars at Glasslands tomorrow (10.03, with Deli darlings People Get Ready) or at Union Pool during the CMJ Music Marathon on 10.23.

We added this song to The Deli's playlist of Best songs by emerging NYC artists - check it out!
