JEREMY & THE HARLEQUINS

Jeremy & The Harlequins release new LP + tour with Electric Six

Revival rock'n'roll bands aren't a rarity in NYC (or anywhere else in the US, for that matter), but it ain't easy to find one that's able to reinvent the genre without sounding irredeemably stuck in the past, while also tearing it on stage. Jeremy & The Harlequins pull off both feats with flair, alternating "purer" rocking tracks with others that introduce pop elements and more modern chord progressions, like "Remeber This," the titletrack and opening track of their new album. The band announced a two legged summer/fall tour - with the later dates as a support for Electric Six. You can catch them live at Brooklyn's Littlefield on October 2nd.

Best of NYC 2014 Readers + Fans Poll results: 1. Jeremy & The Harlequins, 2. The Fluids, 3. Mainland

Deli Readers,

The Deli NYC's Best of 2014 Readers and Fans' Poll is over, thanks to all those who cast their vote in support of the emerging local bands and artists in our list of nominees.

It was an epic battle until the last minute, but revival rock band Jeremy & The Harlequins managed to land on top of the list - we are sure Jeremy's crooning and wooing talent, as displayed in the streaming single below, greatly helped their cause.

Kudos also to The Fluids, a very new NYC indie rock band we blogged about just a few days ago, and the always great Mainland, a very talented and very young Brooklyn indie band that made waves in 2014.

Please stay tuned for the composite chart, to be released soon, which will include details about the point nominees accumulated from the jurors and Deli writers' votes, and will crown The Deli's Best Emerging NYC Artist of 2014.

Here is some music by the three bands that made the podium, and - below - the top 20 with links to each band's music.

Stream the new Jeremy & The Harlequins' album, "American Dreamer"

The sweet, rebellious sentiment of yesteryear’s sound is alive Jeremy & The Harlequins’ new album, "American Dreamer," out Tuesday, February 10. The record, their follow-up to their self-titled EP, and debut full-length, is a raw continuation of their throwback rockabilly sound, with recurrent nods to everything from beach-rock slow jams to the rolling acoustic rhythms of Americana to dance hall swing tunes, all penetrated by Jeremy Fury’s even more heavily reverbed vocals, to give the ghostly effect of the past returning to present. The record starts with the previously released “Step into the Light,” perhaps a little more polished here, and each of the ensuing nine songs is a step further into rock ‘n roll history, and a more pronounced denunciation of modern conventions of music. The first single, “You’re My Halo” is a slow, dreamy rocker that shows the full extent of Fury’s vocal dexterity, belting out mid-range verses, entering into falsetto in the chorus, and even quieting down entirely to hush out some quiet love murmurs.
