Heads up: Samira Winter premieres a new single mere days before her band's North American Tour, titled "All The Things You Do". Like celebrated debut album Supreme Blue Dream, "All The Things You Do" verges on the boundaries of shoegaze, dreampop, and neo-psych, with languid beats pouring over melodies temperate and fibrous. It's a great send-off to summer as autumn falls upon us, and a wonderful tour-parting gift courtesy of Winter (and Burger Records).

Winter leaves on the 18th with indie pop Georgian transplant Allison Weiss, plus NYC's Mal Blum and Kid in the Attic — first show's at the Brick & Mortar Music Hall (SF). Los Angeles will be lonelier (and muggier) without the grace of Samira & Co., but fear not: the quartet returns to perform 11/24 at The Echo! Until then, get lovesick with "All The Things You Do" on repeat. - Ryan Mo

This past Friday, New York anti-folk artist Mal Blum unveiled not just her fifth studio album 'You Look A Lot Like Me' but the unabashedly playful music video (streaming below) for album track "Robert Frost." Featuring the artist passing the time with her own dog (and periodically imitating it) while hanging out with friends on a sunny day, the co-directed visuals read as a thinker's day off, Blum acknowledging the titular poet's existential questions while enjoying some downtime. As revealed in a moving blog post, her latest release "came from a bad place, and an incessant desire to be understood and connect with people," and this bright clip is perhaps the fruit of that struggle. Back for its third year, Tinderbox Music Festival — entirely composed of female musicians and female-fronted bands — showcased this past Sunday a diverse amount of genres with acts from all over the country playing on 3 separate stages. The event started at 1pm with folkier bands taking the stage in the morning, including a stand out performance by NYC  Jamie Bendell (pictured and streaming), whose beautifully raw and innocent voice blended perfectly with catchy acoustic guitar riffs and a grittier sound from the back-up electric guitarist. Other standouts of the day included: Hello Phones, the powerful and punky ohian group Jasper the Colossal, the endearing and talented Mal Blum backed by drummer and guitarist, and one of the last bands of the day, the wonderfully energetic Charlene Kaye and the Brilliant Eyes. The headliner, Coco Rosie, ended the night with an emotional and experimental set that had the audience entranced. Those looking for a little escape from the craze of the CMJ week will find an ideal refuge at the East Village's Sidewalk Cafe, where on Friday, we'll be showcasing seven local singer/songwriters and anti-folk outfits for a free evening of intimate performances and sharp-tongued poetry. We' ve got the funny, quirky ones like headliner Mal Blum, Luke Kelly & acolytes, a.k.a Kung Fu Crimewave, with their far-fetched stories, Crazy & The Brains, self-defined party-punk four-piece every bit as frantic as the name suggests, and Ben Pagano who touched at a true contemporary issue in one of his latest releases - yes, hipsters. We've got the emotional performances, courtesy of St. Lenox, and Bird to Prey who will be releasing her 'Saved By The Storm' album, and finally, we've got Go Love, eclectic collective of artists revolving around Ray Brown and whatever/whoever may tickle his fancy. Literally most everything we could file under 'Anti-Folk' - that is, expect some acts that may change your perception of this fairly versatile label. In the picture: Crazy & The Brains.
