September has arrived, and with it, comes the ceremonial conclusion of summer. However, before the sun-kissed season draws to a close, Ben Franklin Parkway plays host to a recently vested (6^th overall) tradition Made In America. While an assortment acts will grace the various stages over, the 2-day event, the local contingent continues to grow. This Saturday includes the silky, serenading electro-pop of Marian Hill, the retrofitted, harmony-harnessing Queen of Jeans, the devastatingly tenacious, melodic whirlwind of Mannequin Pussy, and experimental instrumental textures meets sincere Americana-folk songwriting of (Sandy) Alex G. And Sunday’s slate begins with PNB Rock, before a consecutive tandem that includes the heart-rendering, earnest elegance of Japanese Breakfast (whose Soft Sounds From Another Planet was our August Record of the Month) and the gritty, grab-the-wheel-and-drive indie rock of Beach Slang. Of course, the streets of Philadelphia will also be filled with bangers from Hova, Solange, Run the Jewels, Little Dragon, and many others. We could probably never pull off a choreographed dance, but we certainly apreciate when it's done well. Marian Hill enlisted the help of some talented folks to film their music video for the single, "I Want You," at the YouTube Space NY. In one take to boot! Or should we say, "One time, one time, one time"? Republic Records is scheduled to release Act One, the debut full-length album from Marian Hill, on June 24. They brought a special performance of “One Time” to The Wild Honey Pie Presents On The Mountain. With a soulful, sultry, simmering start, the song shifts upward, set up by a sax smoothly snapping your ears and hips into submission with that ever-augmenting electro-beat.

“Down,” the latest release from the duo of Marian Hill, begins with the graceful, jazz-oriented keys paving the way for Sam Gongol’s elegant vocals. As your swept into the seductive subtlety, the afterburners of a glitchy, electro-percussive beat kick in. That low, warming flame switches gears into a hyperactive call to action, before simmering down and then raising it up again. The heat rises, yet Gongol maintains her cool.
