Valley Exit & Myrrias Double Record Release Show at JB's Dec. 7

Soft Dystopia, the freshly hatched label from producer/ musician Jeff Zeigler (check out our recent interview with him HERE), celebrates its inaugural albums with a dual record release show at Johnny Brenda’s. With their eponymous LP officially being released this Friday, the expanded lineup of Valley Exit creates soundscapes that crisply layers instrumentation, activating a murky atmosphere that captivates in complexity, while maintaining the circulating warmth of vapor. Meanwhile, Myrrias' sophomore album, Spectra, shifts one’s headspace, washing waves of inviting vocal harmony with drifting desolate psych/dream-pop that cerebrally tunnels. The relaxed interlocking rhythms of quartet Long Spells exhibit a casual, jangly air with a raw ripping drive. Suburban Living is set to DJ on this richly interwoven/overlapping evening. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $10, 21+ - Michael Colavita

New Myrrias LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Spectra, the new full-length album from Myrrias, is officially out via Jeff Zeigler's new record label Soft Dystopia. Co-produced with Zeigler, the album canvasses a refreshing, heady psych/dreampop duality. Deep-churning, precision rhythms lead the way, cushioned by the magnetizing balance of vocal harmonies, as shards of instrumentation etch well-crafted sonic shapes that while polished, exhibit-invigorating edges. Embrace the weekend, and wrap yourself in this cleansing psych dream. Catch the band’s record release show on Wednesday, December 7 at Johnny Brenda's, alongside labelmates Valley Exit (who will be celebrating a self-titled release of their own), as part of a lineup that also includes Long Spells and a DJ set from Suburban Living! New Myrrias Single Release Available for Streaming & Download

Myrrias just announced that they will be releasing a full-length album, titled Spectra, this Friday, December 2 via Jeff Zeigler's new record label Soft Dystopia, and it will be available on cassette and digitally. The record will consist of four previously unreleased tracks as well as live recordings of songs found on their debut Endless Winter Session. They'll be celebrating the album's arrival next Wednesday, December 7 at Johnny Brenda's with Valley Exit (who are also releasing their first LP), Long Spells, and Sububurban Living (DJ set). Myrrias will be taking a break from playing out live after the release show as keyboardist/vocalist Mikele Edwards prepares to give birth in the coming year (Congrats, Mikele!); however, the group will continue writing and recording as they plan to release another EP in late spring/early summer. Take their latest single, "PEAK," for a spin below, along with its B-side "My Spell," which was written by Emily Robb for the band, before forming Louie Louie.

The Dove & The Wolf Opening for LOUDS at Boot & Saddle April 29

Delicately beautiful layers of harmony shine through on Parisian transplants The Dove & The Wolf’s sound. There’s a natural ascending strength that gathers as the tender, rolling, folky jangle enhances the tightly entwined vocals lifting into a subconscious sojourn. Tonight, the direction-changing, exuberant Brooks brothers-led LOUDS is also headlining the bill, potentially offering a peak into their upcoming album CHARM UP! Myrrias open the evening as entrancing vocals team with a steady grip of psych/dream-pop instrumentation, drawing you into their depths. Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 8:30pm, $10, 21+ - Michael Colavita

Weekend Warrior, April 1 - 3

Michelle Zuaner (Little Big League, Post Post) is celebrating the debut label release, Pychopomp (Yellow K Records), from her solo project Japanese Breakfast at Ortlieb’s tonight. The new venture shows a radically contrasting side to Zauner as a songwriter through its use of experimental textures, pads, and loops. Compared to the dynamic energy of the guitar-driven Little Big League, Japanese Breakfast is airy and subdued with sonic nuances. The synth work brings to mind bands like Small Black or Brothertiger, but the songs have more of the carefree charm of The Sundays or Saint Etienne. Joining Japanese Breakfast this evening will be Littler, the fuzzy, poppy, punky band that sounds like the projected approximation of Veruca Salt in the universe where they subsequently became a twee band. Myrrias will also be also performing, bringing a psychedelic slant to the bill, with dark atmospherics and droning, interweaving melodies. Ortlieb’s, 847 N. 3rd St., 8pm, $10, 21+ - Bryce Woodcock
