The Fantastic Imagination Hosting So Cow at Silk City Sept. 21

It seems that the fantastical journey of The Fantastic Imagination might be nearing an end. The band posted on its Facebook page: "Come see us play for the last time in a while." The Fantastic Imagination will be performing this evening at Silk City alongside the siren-esque soundscapes of Myrrias. They'll be hosting a rare appearance by Irish noise-pop crew So Cow. I doubt that you'll find a better place to be this Sunday night. Silk City, 435 Spring Garden St., $7, 21+ - H.M. Kauffman

Myrrias Opening for Dead Gaze at The Boot & Saddle Aug. 23

The ladies of Myrrias have been steadily building noise ever since their live debut at Ortlieb’s at the tail end of 2013. Each of their members are part of well-respected Philly acts like Arc In Round, Lantern, Downtown Club, and Break It Up, so they’re no strangers to the local music scene. The four-piece is currently working on new material with Uniform Recording’s Jeff Zeigler. They’ll be making their Boot & Saddle debut tonight opening for North Mississippi’s Dead Gaze, and will be joined by garage-rock outfit Sheer Mag, who are getting ready to release their debut 7” next month. Half of Myrrias (Mikele Edwards and April Harkanson) just celebrated their birthdays last week so wish them well and buy them plenty of drinks! The Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 6pm, $10, 21+ - Bill McThrill

A Sunny Day in Glasgow w/Pattern is Movement & Myrrias at JB's July 27

A Sunny Day in Glasgow released their first album in four years, the Jeff Zeigler-produced Sea Went Absent, earlier this week via Lefse Records, and this evening, they’ll headline a triad of local artists that know how to push the envelope. The six-piece develops an ethereal state of affairs, capturing soft siren-esque vocals combined with floating layers of instrumentation, pieces of keys/synth, strings percussion, guitar etc., fitting them together to form a beautiful musical portrait that somehow slightly drifts out there yet, for the most part, remains within reach. On a similar note, the experimental-pop pairing of Andrew Thiboldeaux and Chris Ward, a.k.a. Pattern is Movement, delivers its intricately groovy, multi-instrumental R&B, fusing a variety of musical textures while the end product appears seamless. Myrrias a newly formed quartet, which includes Mikele Edwards (Arc in Round), Amy Harkanson (Downtown Club), Casey Bell (Break It Up), and Emily Robb (Lantern), opens the show weaving together vocals with a darker edge, industrial instrumental tone. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $14, 21+ - Michael Colavita

Debut Myrrias Recordings Available for Streaming

Check out the first three-song sampling of Myrrias entitled Endless Winter Session! The all-female powerhouse four-piece is made up of Mikele Edwards (Arc In Round), April Harkanson (The Downtown Club), Emily Robb (Lantern) and Casey Bell (Break It Up), and you can definitely hear the influences of some of their previous projects on this EP like the dream-pop vocals and shoegaze guitars of its opener "Focus," which is also available for free download. The recordings were produced by Edwards' Arc In Round bandmate Jeff Zeigler at his Eraserhood studio, Uniform Recording.

Weekend Warrior, January 31 - February 2

Space has no sound; it’s a vacuum of nothingness. Much of today’s experiments with psych rock can be imagined as noise from the vast void - how space might sound if it did. But The Solar Motel Band doesn’t make music for floating away into the universe; they make jams for the trip back as you’re hurling through Earth’s atmosphere. Warped, Americana-inspired folk intermingles with crashing and mathematical noise, it’s a calculated journey that is straight from the mind of Chris Forsyth, whose forays into the vast reaches of the musical genre has helped produce this screaming rocket of sound. In addition to Forsyth’s latest project, fledgling all-female outfit Myrrias will be on the bill tonight at Johnny Brenda's. Although the band is newly formed, the ladies that make up the group have all been around the block with members consisting of Mikele Edwards (Arc In Round), April Harkanson (The Downtown Club), Emily Robb (Lantern) and Casey Bell (Break It Up). The band promises a minimalist sound with backbone, or as they describe it, “light as a feather, stiff as a board.” Also on the docket is Horse Lords. Hailing from Baltimore, this band rocks an avant-garde, experimental style all their own. The night promises to be a veritable feast of sound - come out and broaden your musical horizons, or revel in a genre with which you’re well versed! Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $10, 21+ - Shaylin O’Connell
