New Don't Stop Now Benefit Compilation Available for Streaming & Purchase

Philly's own Don't Stop Now series just shared its second compilation in time for this oh so important Election Day. "Let it serve as a reminder that the fight for justice is not over, that the celebration of diversity is essential to progress, that we must work together for what is fair and good." Stacked mostly with kick-ass local artists like Tom May (The Menzingers), Cherry, Augusta Koch (Cayetana), No Thank You, SOUL GLO, Greg Mendez, and many, many more covering beloved artists (Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Fugazi, The Beastie Boys, Tom Waits, Lucinda Williams, Sharon Van Etten, etc.), you now have plenty of entertainment on your way to the voting booth. All proceeds from the compilation will be donated to RAICES (Refugee & Immigrant Center for Education & Legal Services), "a nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees in Texas."

New No Thank You LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

All It Takes To Ruin It All, the new album from Philly power trio No Thank You, is officially out today via Lame-O Records. Consistently pushing forward in tight springs of momentum, the album maintains a deeply personal connection with its narrative. Working through a range of emotions including grief, a palpable sensitivity flourishes. The band will be celebrating the album's arrival this evening at Kung Fu Necktie, supported by Narra and Tact.

New Track: "Cubic Zirconia" - No Thank You

All It Takes To Ruin It All, the forthcoming album from No Thank You, will released on April 6 via Lame-O Records. The trio recently shared the album’s lead single, “Cubic Zirconia”. A rhythmic climb gathers steam as Kaytee Della Monica expresses a sensitive awareness in the face grief. The insight into the flurry of emotion that follows loss is surrounded by an instrumental drive, providing a concise, episodic window. Kung Fu Necktie will be hosting No Thank You’s record release show on Friday, April 6, where they'll be supported by Narra and Tact. (Photo by Daniel Lidon)

Weekend Warrior, November 24 - 26

This Sunday, a congregation heads to the First Unitarian Church, celebrating the bounty of beautiful music that local imprint Lame-O Records has curated in its first 5 years. Jake Ewald’s Slaughter Beach, Dog creates a sense of melodic ease, whilst working through the humbling hurdles of day-to-day living, via thoughtful perspectives. Cutting directly to the core of emotions with songwriting spun out of sincerity, Shannen Moser establishes an inviting folk proximity, drawing one in with blankets of relatable harmonies that ache and simultaneously provide room to breathe and process. Fuzzily rekindling mementos of the past with a clean-slated set of eyes, Cherry is freshly familiar, while No Thank You brings the tangle of guttural pensions to the surface, demonstrating a cathartic grit. They'll also be pre-partying in the Side Chapel with a pop-up acoustic show that will feature "Lame-O and friends". Congrats to Eric Osman and the Lame-O family! – Michael Colavita

The Deli Philly’s March Record of the Month: Jump Ship - No Thank You

South Philly singer-songwriter Kate Della Monica and her bandmates – better known as No Thank You – mark another milestone with the release of their first full-length album Jump Ship (Lame-O Records).

Opening with the hazy romance of “Eyeballs,” a dreamy hymn awash in chimes and bittersweet melody. A lo-fi annunciation, the album’s first track has the perfect mix of lyrical brevity and delicate soundscapes, while “Cold” proves to be a doubly affecting ballad, fusing moody melodrama, driving bass, and grunge-y chords. Confessions like “I'm sorry that I've been so cold again/but my heavy heart it needs to be frozen” are quickly followed by blips of disenchantment and crystallized hope: “Maybe there's a chance for me/to float in this goddamn mess that I've been drowning in.” A probable soundtrack for self-care or the latter days of a problematic but passionate relationship, “Cold” will thaw the heart of its listener, despite its namesake.

“Old News” explores the haunting aftermath of human closeness, the pain of letting go, and the complex irony of missing those who harm us with harmony and riffs nostalgic of 90’s icons like Shirley Manson and Veruca Salt. “Serenity Song” is energetic and earnest as fuck, offering fans a mantra for coping: “God grant me the goddamn opportunity to move on,” which serves as the flawless preface to the hushed ambience of “Bad @ Love Songs”. Here, No Thank You says everything most lovers fail to without a shred of pretense or hesitation, making the track the opposite of what its title suggests.

The endearingly twee of “Juicy J” is a dance inducing pick-me-up, bound to make even the coldest stoic swoon, up until it’s end, examining the fine line between reality and “playing pretend” before the solemn start of “Teeter” takes over. In the tradition of The Cranberries seminal LP Everybody Else Is Doing It So Why Can’t We?,No Thank You’s ability to be brutally honest manifests itself equally via diction, lyricism, and instrumentation. Closing with the affirmingly self-aware “The Unbearable Purposelessness of Being,” an anthem of survival and growing older where proclamations like “you never know how strong you are until you start to break” and “I’m twenty something and I’m alive” are just enough to get you and your friends through the darkest of times.

Jump Ship won’t just make you feel brave; it’ll heal your heart. - Dianca London
