Brooklyn Political punk act, Worriers, announced their upcoming headline show at Mercury Lounge on April 21st, joined on stage by Philly's Pouty (ex-Slutever, Upset) and Don Giovanni label-mates Painted Zeros, who play dreamy post punk and are also based in NYC.  Worriers is currently finishing a 5-week eastern US tour that included dates supporting The Smith Street Band and The Falcon (Lawrence Arms, Alkaline Trio, Loved Ones) along with an official appearance at SXSW. This will be the band’s first New York headline date of the year, after sold-out shows supporting Iron Chic and The Smith Street Band. 

Painted Zeros is a Brooklyn trio devising (rather) lo-fi songs that strike a happy medium between the clean, dreamy sound of dream-pop and the hyper-effected one of shoegazer, without outruling the occasional bursts of feedback-based noise. The band will be celebrating the release of their debut full length "Floriography" at Shea Stadium on 10.30, a few weeks before embarking on a tour with another local trio, Slight, who play a catchy brand of garage pop. Dissonance in rock music is not infrequent, but we'd be hard pressed to find it in pop - except... we just did! Brooklyn's Painted Zeros are not afraid to use discordant chords within their otherwise perfectly dream-pop tunes. The effect is rather interesting: that dreaminess becomes somewhat weird, and the concept itself of 'dream' assumes a deeper, more troubled meaning, reminiscent of the strident juxtaposition of good and awful dreams in David Lynch's masterpiece Mulholland Drive. The band's recent video for single "Too Drunk" (streaming) seem to reflect this ambivalence, portraying intoxicated fans in some kind of air-french-kissing competition - which is at once awesome and fucked up. The band will be playing at Union Pool on June 4th opening for Austin's The Zoltars.
