Three Man Cannon

Debut Good Education EP Available for Streaming & Download

Besides helping other local artists like Cayetana and Cave People produce their own albums, Three Man Cannon's Matt Schimelfenig has a new solo project of his own. He's currently recording under the moniker Good Education, and just released his debut self-titled EP. You can stream and download the three psyched-out/indie-pop tunes below.

Krispy Kareem EP Release Show at Baker Bowl March 13

The pop-punk trio of Krispy Kareem celebrates the release of its EP Cadillac with a performance tonight at Baker Bowl. The group’s vibrant loose style offers a light accessibility that’s easy to gravitate towards. That relaxed approach, with a dash of surf-rock sounds, translates into tunes that assimilate into ones mind in a rapid fashion. Krispy Kareem rides an amusing wave that you’ll want to catch. The melodic melancholy of Second Marriage will also make an appearance, while Pittsburgh transplant Matt Holden (Legs Like Tree Trunks) will open the night with an acoustic set of emotive math rock. Melding gut-torn melodies with instrumentation that smoothly weaves comforting packages and yet is prepared to shred and tear away at the seams, Scranton transplants Three Man Cannon headline. Tennessee’s Mouth Reader ships in thick riff-oriented garage rock jumpstarted by active percussion and augmented by psych-stretching vocals. Baker Bowl (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more info.), 8pm, $3, All Ages - Michael Colavita

Three Man Cannon on Display at KFN Feb. 1

Three Man Cannon's Matt Schimelfenig had his hands in the production of some of our favorite albums last year like Cayetana's Nervous Like Me and Cave People's Older. Tonight, his band's own music will be on display in the upstairs of Kung Fu Necktie. Three Man Cannon also impressed with their own LP, the emotive and introspective Pretty Many People (Lame-O Records). It's been a moment since we've heard new material from the Scranton transplants so hopefully they've been hiding out in the studio taking advantage of their bandmate's multi-faceted skills. Joining them on the bill this evening will be local shoegazers Ghost Gum and NYC's Painted Zeros and Bethlehem Steel. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $6, 21+ - H.M. Kauffman

Weekend Warrior, November 14 – 16

Just before SideOneDummy released Restorations' latest album LP3 the indie post-punk quintet embarked on a big tour of the US. The impressive nine-track album that was cut at Miner Street Studios and the bands homecoming is certainly worthy of a big celebration, which is happening at First Unitarian Church this Saturday, and they'll be joined by a great supporting cast of locals. Pop-punk femme fatales Cayetana have had a huge year that culminated with the release of their debut full-length, Nervous Like Me, and a spot on the Brooklyn Vegan CMJ Showcase. And the girls are poised to move onto an even bigger 2015. What started out as a one-man project by Everyone Everywhere's Matthew Scottoline has evolved into the lush power-pop trio that is Hurry. The show will also feature Three Man Cannon, who will be playing tunes from their latest, Pretty Many People. First Unitarian Church, 2125 Chestnut St., 8pm, $13, All Ages - Bill McThrill

Sorority Noise to bring the commotion to Amherst

Riding on the release of May's Forgettable LP, Hartford's Sorority Noise is heading to Amherst, MA, next Monday, August 18. Fitting to its name, the band’s lyrics span the insecurities of college life – take, for example, “When we broke up you told me to try and find myself … so I found myself in someone else's bed,” from “Dirty Ickes” – but the band’s groovy punk inspires one to dance through the darkness rather than sulk alone. Check out Sorority Noise in Massachusetts’ most famous college town alongside Three Man Cannon, Sexy Girls, The Hundred Acre Woods and Amherst folk-punks Dérive at Amherst's Unitarian Meeting House at 7 p.m. on August 18. – Jake Reed (@jakejreed)
