Particularly on a day when the sun takes refuge behind the celestial bodies, one could use a shimmer of solace. Tutlie emerges as a break in the clouds this evening at Kung Fu Necktie. Fusing elegantly ascending vocal harmony with the strong, revitalizing wonderland of instrumentation, hovering in a substantial yet feathery floatation, Tutlie is a refreshingly crisp musical breath, especially when they'll be playing a set of material from their new record. Tonight, they’re paired with the unfiltered emotive pensions of Clique, whose melodic ebb and flow simmers and swells with a tranquil but unsettled energy. Once again, NoLibs’s 2^nd Street will be mobbed this Sunday for Philly’s annual 2^nd Street Festival, the city’s biggest block party. There will be two stages of live music, featuring local talent such as The Extraordinaires, Dogs on Acid, LOUDS, Tutlie, Tin Horses, Satellite Hearts, and many others. CRUISR headlines a three-pronged billing of local bands this evening at Johnny Brenda’s. The lineup, which also includes Tutlie and Suburban Living, shares the thread of easily lovable, movement-enticing music. The quartet of CRUISR serves up naturally positive bounce that bubbles over, pushed by a melodic core and sustained by a constant percussive pop and subtly sharp reinforcing guitar lines. Tutlie occupy the middle slot surrounding you in an intricately designed orchestra of sound that lifts one into the upper atmosphere, rather than weighing you down with their powerful vocal interplay. Wesley Bunch guides the heart-pumping emotive synth-pop vehicle of Suburban Living, jumpstarting your night while weaving in and out of the shadows with a combination of urgency and ease. Mercury Girls offer an interesting, organic spin, pulling from a Brit-pop foundation to create clean, jangly pop-rock that invites you along for the journey. The quartet unites former Catnaps members Adrianne Gold (Tender Vision) and Carolyn Haynes (Ghost Gum) with Literature members Kevin Attics & Chris Schackerman, and begins their new musical adventure this evening opening a tri-fold bill at Bourbon & Branch. The invigorating baroque pop of Tutlie bridges the gap. The intoxicating vocal interplay of Jessie Radlow and Rebecca Way takes one into the upper atmosphere as the delicately layered instrumentation establishes a cozy, ethereal environment. Wesley Bunch–led Suburban Living headline as part of their month-long residency at the NoLibs venue. Bunch’s controlled (yet emotively stirring) vocals take a ride on the perpetually moving 1-2 punch of synth and percussion, cruising along the shadowy, dream-pop terrain.
